Finalised inquiries

  • When an ACCC inquiry is finalised, we publish our findings in a formal report to help inform consumers, encourage public debate and inform policy consideration.

Childcare inquiry 2023

On 28 October 2022, the Treasurer directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into the market for the supply of childcare services. The inquiry provided an interim report in June 2023 and a final report in December 2023.

Dairy inquiry 2016-18

The ACCC conducted an inquiry into the competitiveness, trading practices, and transparency of the Australian dairy industry.

Digital advertising services inquiry 2020-21

On 10 February 2020 the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into markets for the supply of digital advertising technology services and digital advertising agency services.

Digital platforms inquiry 2017-19

The inquiry looked at the effect that digital search engines, social media platforms and other digital content aggregation platforms have on competition in media and advertising services markets.

Digital platform services inquiry 2020-25

On 10 February 2020 the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into markets for the supply of digital platform services.

Feminine hygiene products price monitoring 2018-19

On 28 November 2018, the Treasurer directed the ACCC to monitor the prices, costs and profits relating to the supply of menstrual products in the feminine hygiene products industry in Australia.

Foreign currency conversion services inquiry 2018-19

On 2 October 2018, the Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, issued a notice approving the ACCC to hold an inquiry into the supply of foreign currency conversion services in Australia.

Grocery inquiry 2008

On 22 January 2008, the then Assistant Treasurer requested an ACCC price inquiry into the price of groceries.

Home loan price inquiry 2019-20

On 14 October 2019, the Treasurer directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into home loan pricing. The inquiry covered the period from 1 January 2019 and impediments to consumers switching to alternative home loan suppliers.

Murray-Darling Basin water markets inquiry 2019-21

The ACCC has been directed to conduct an inquiry into markets for tradeable water rights in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Northern Australia insurance inquiry 2017-20

On 25 May 2017, the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the supply of home, contents and strata insurance in Northern Australia.

Perishable agricultural goods inquiry 2020

In August 2020, the ACCC was directed to start a 3-month inquiry into bargaining power imbalances in supply chains for perishable agricultural products in Australia.

Regional mobile infrastructure inquiry 2022-23

In March 2022, the ACCC was directed to conduct an inquiry into towers used in the supply of radiocommunications services in regional areas, and into the feasibility of providing mobile roaming during natural disasters and emergencies.

Residential mortgage products price inquiry 2017-18

On 9 May 2017 the Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into residential mortgage products.

Retail deposits inquiry 2023

On 14 February 2023, the Treasurer directed the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into the market for retail deposit products supplied by authorised deposit-taking institutions. It included how banks set interest rates, as well as other terms and conditions.

Retail electricity pricing inquiry 2017-18

On 27 March 2017, the Treasurer directed the ACCC to hold an inquiry into the supply of retail electricity and the competitiveness of retail electricity prices.

Supermarkets inquiry 2024-25

On 25 January 2024, the Australian Government announced that it will direct the ACCC to conduct an inquiry into Australia’s supermarket sector.
