ACCC action on buying products and services
The ACCC is investigating the supply of banned and potentially deadly toys and games containing small high-powered magnets, including ‘magnetic chess’ or ‘magnetic battle chess’ games being sold tonline. Certain separable or loose, small, high-powered magnets are covered by a permanent ban because of the danger of injury or death if swallowed.
The ACCC has today commenced Federal Court proceedings against Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd (Amazon AU) alleging kids backpacks in its possession or control for sale on its online marketplace failed to comply with mandatory button battery warning requirements.
A permanent ban on baby bottle self-feeding devices is now in effect. The ban applies to products that position a baby bottle, or bottle teat, so an infant can self-feed without another person holding the bottle or without adult supervision. Key safety risks include injury or death from choking, aspiration or suffocation.
