The Large Format Retail Association (LFRA) sought authorisation to pool its members’ electricity demand and collectively invite tenders, and negotiate with suppliers, on the basis of that aggregated demand.
LFRA also sought authorisation for future members to join the purchasing group of Participating Members, provided that the total consumption of the purchasing group does not exceed 1 per cent of electricity consumption in any State or Territory in Australia.
On 20 September 2019 the ACCC released a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation for 11 years and also granted interim authorisation to enable LFRA and its members to begin initial stages of the tender and negotiation process.
On 23 October 2019, the ACCC released a final determination granting authorisation for 11 years. A copy of this determination is available below.
