The ACCC has completed its second annual review of Water NSW’s regulated charges for water infrastructure services in the Murray-Darling Basin. This review applies to charges for 2016-17, the third and last year of the regulatory period 2014–17.
Annual reviews of charges for the second and subsequent years of a regulatory period are provided for under Division 3 of Part 6 of the Water Charge (Infrastructure) Rules 2010.
In this annual review the ACCC can only vary the charges determined in accordance with its 2014 Determination of Water NSW's charges if it considers the changes are reasonably necessary having regard to:
- changes in demand or consumption forecasts; and
- price stability.
This is the ACCC’s last review of Water NSW charges. On 1 June 2016 the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) became the accredited regulator of Water NSW in relation to Part 6 of the Water Charge (Infrastructure) Rules 2010.
IPART is conducting a review of WaterNSW’s 2017-21 price proposal.
Stakeholders who wish to be included on IPART’s stakeholder list for the review can register by email waternswrural@ipart.nsw.gov.au or contact the IPART Director in charge of the review, John Madden on (02) 9113 7780.
