The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today issued the first annual regulatory report for the privatised Phase II Airports.

The 1998/99 report includes information on price cap compliance, prices monitoring and accounts reporting for Adelaide Airport, Alice Springs Airport, Canberra Airport, Coolangatta Airport, Darwin Airport, Hobart Airport, Launceston Airport and Townsville Airport.

"The regulatory accounts sections of the reports indicate that the Phase II airports recorded losses after interest and tax for the 1998/99 period", ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said. "However, most of the airports have advised that these operating results are in line with expectations.

"As with the Phase I airports (Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth), aeronautical charges at the Phase II airports are subject to price caps. Compliance in some cases was affected by increases in general aviation charges, and the inclusion of taxi revenue in the price cap reconciliation. Details are provided in the report". The report will be available on the ACCC website at www.accc.gov.au. Reports for Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney airports are also on the ACCC website.
