The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today issued an advisory alert to consumers that it had identified a potential lead content hazard in a military play set.

The product is identified as the Special Mission Combat Force Military Play Set. It is a military action set comprising a truck, mounted helicopter, military vehicle and soldier figurines.

"Preliminary assessment has indicated that some of the paint on various components may represent a potential hazard," ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, said today. "Further tests are under way to determine whether the toys may have unacceptable lead levels."

One known supplier, Australian Discount Retail (Trading) Pty Ltd is cooperating fully with the ACCC on this matter and is taking steps to remove the product from sale over the weekend.

Investigations are continuing to establish other possible suppliers of the product and its distribution. A consumer level recall of this product may follow once the degree of hazard has been clearly established.

In the interim, all parents and carers are advised, as a precautionary measure, to remove all components of the play set from children and to store them in a secure location. If the need for a recall is confirmed, advice on the recall should be available within the next week and as soon as test results are available.
