The NSW Government's creation of a group of specialist power market advisers to help drive national power reform has been welcomed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

"The ACCC has been concerned for some time that there had been an apparent weakening of commitment by the States to the creation of a national energy market," ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said today.

"Business has been demanding that Governments overcome parochial concerns and move to implement a national market for gas and electricity, yet some States appeared to be back-pedalling.

"Yesterday's announcement by the NSW Government is a welcome re-affirmation of its commitment to reform.

"The development of a national power market is crucial to deliver lower energy costs to all customers big business, small business and household consumers."
