The Federal Court today extended an interim order against the Maritime Union of Australia; its national secretary, Mr John Coombs; and Mr Trevor Charles, an Australian International Transport Workers' Federation representative; restraining them from taking any action to bring about the boycott of certain ships loaded or unloaded in Australia using non-MUA labour.

Justice Bryan Beaumont continued the order until 11 June 1998 when a full interlocutory hearing will be held in the Federal Court, Sydney before Justice Tony North. Further orders requiring the MUA to withdraw any calls for assistance for the boycott of the Canada Columbus or Direct Kea was not pursued by the ACCC following assurances from the MUA that they had complied with the previous order.
