A guide on how changes to Australia's telecommunications sector can be best exploited by small business has been issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

In a Small Business Guide: Telecommunications,the ACCC examines the new telecommunications law and its impact on business.

There is also advice on issues such as pricing, new services and future technology.

The report also advises small business on the various roles of the principal telecommunications regulators.

'A competitive environment enables consumers to enjoy lower prices, high product quality and a greater range of services and products,' the guide says.

'It enables business to negotiate arrangements tailored to their needs.'

The Guide is to be distributed nationally through the ACCC's Small Business Advisory Group which meets regularly with the ACCC to discuss trade practices matters of concern for small business and the ACCC offices in all State and Territory capitals, Townsville and Tamworth.
