The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has today issued a notice to revoke notification of the Sydney Organising Committee of the Olympic Games' arrangements for the next round of Olympic ticket sales.

The ACCC has advised SOCOG today of this action.

"Under the current proposal the next round of Olympic tickets sales would commence in mid April through the Internet and the Olympic Call Centre with the only means of payment being via a VISA card", ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said today.

"From around early June tickets will also be able to be bought from NSW box offices for all events, and from interstate box offices for Olympic football. Box offices will accept payments by methods such as cash or bank cheques in addition to VISA.

"The ACCC is seeking from SOCOG a system which will be a more consumer friendly outcome.

"It does not believe that the convenience of the organisation (SOCOG) should over-ride the ability of all Australians to enjoy taking part in this significant international event.

"The ACCC's decision relates the impact of the SOCOG's proposals outside NSW because, under NSW legislation SOCOG is exempt from the application of the provisions of the Trade Practices Act within NSW".
