The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not intervene in the acquisition of Australian Posters by Australian Provincial Newspapers.

The ACCC found that the acquisition is not likely to substantially lessen competition. "APN and Australian Posters are both involved in the outdoor advertising business," ACCC Chairman, Professor Allan Fels, said today.

"The acquisition will result in APN being the largest outdoor advertising company in Australia. "Nevertheless, there are other outdoor advertising companies such as Claude Neon, Manboon and Boyd. The information available indicates that the acquisition is unlikely to increase the level of concentration beyond the Merger Guidelines' concentration threshold.

"In addition, the ACCC found that there is a degree of competitive pressure from other forms of media advertising. Under these circumstances, the ACCC does not believe that the acquisition is likely to substantially lessen competition."
