The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today issued a Statement of Issues in relation to the proposed acquisition of GasNet by the Australian Pipeline Trust.

The ACCC considers that the competition effects of the proposed transaction depend on the outcome of the proposed Alinta AGL merger proposal schemes.

If the Alinta and AGL merger proposal schemes do not go ahead and AGL retains its 30 per cent interest in APT, the ACCC has identified competition issues that may raise concerns. The Statement of Issues sets out those issues.

The ACCC invites further submissions from market participants focused on the matters raised in the Statement of Issues by 10am on Monday 11 September 2006. The ACCC anticipates making a final decision in mid to late September.
