The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today agreed to a further request by BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto that the ACCC delay making a decision regarding the proposed joint venture until after the parties have had further discussions with overseas regulators and provided additional submissions to the ACCC.

The ACCC's timeline for the review of the proposed joint venture has been suspended since 7 July 2010 at the request of the joint venture parties to allow them to make additional submissions to the ACCC. Further details of the ACCC's review of the proposed joint venture are available on the public merger register on the ACCC's website, www.accc.gov.au/mergersregister.
