Competition analysis

On 7 November 2007, the ACCC announced its decision not to oppose the acquisition by Transpacific of the solid waste collection contract for Cairns City Council (and two trucks used in servicing that contract), previously held by Wanless Wastecorp.

The ACCC considered the information provided by Transpacific and other information available to it. Based on that information, the ACCC considered that the acquisition of the Wanless Wastecorp contract was unlikely to remove a significant source of competitive constraint in the relevant market. A key factor in reaching this view was the fact that (in relation to the relevant market) there are a number of alternative competitive providers which will remain available to customers.
