The ACCC has issued a draft determination proposing to enable the Australian Energy Market Operator Limited (AEMO) to continue to operate Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of version 6 of the Retail Market Procedures (RMP) and the associated deeds. The RMP and associated deeds are the rules under which the gas retail market systems are operated in Western Australia.

Chapters 5 and 6 of the rules have been authorised since 2004 and AEMO is proposing to continue to operate the rules on substantially the same terms as they were previously authorised.

The ACCC considers that these provisions of the rules will continue to contribute to the efficient operation of the Western Australian retail gas market.

The ACCC proposes to grant re-authorisation for a further 10 years.

The ACCC has also granted interim authorisation to the arrangements as the existing authorisation is due to expire on 17 September 2019, before the ACCC will have made a final decision about the current application for re-authorisation.

The ACCC invites submissions in relation to the draft determination by 20 September 2019 before making a final decision, which is expected to be in October 2019.

Further information about the ACCC’s draft determination and AEMO’s application for re-authorisation is available on the ACCC’s public register at: Australian Energy Market Operator Limited.
