The ACCC has commenced a self-initiated review of the chicken meat industry in Australia. The review will run to December 2020 and will focus on the commercial relationships between growers and processors. At the conclusion of the review, the ACCC will publish a report that will outline competition or consumer issues existing in the industry and consider the options available to address the identified issues.

This review is not an enforcement investigation into the practices of any particular entities in the chicken meat industry or a Minister-directed price inquiry. This review is akin to our recent work in assessing potential harms to competition in the agricultural machinery sector.

The ACCC will be consulting with industry as part of the review, with a formal consultation process commencing mid-August through the ACCC consultation hub. In the interim, if you would like to contribute to the chicken meat review, you can contact the team at chickenmeatreview@accc.gov.au.
