The ACCC has decided to allow a minor variation to the authorisation initially granted in 2016 for an alliance between Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa to coordinate their operations between Singapore Airlines’ home markets (Singapore, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia) and Lufthansa’s home markets (Germany, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland). The minor variation is to include Scoot, a low cost carrier which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, in the alliance.

Authorisation provides a legal exemption where the likely public benefits outweigh the likely public detriments; coordination between airlines about their operations may otherwise breach competition laws.

Further information, including the ACCC’s determination granting the minor variation, is available on the ACCC’s authorisation Public Register.
