March 2024 interim report21 May 2024

On 21 May 2024, the ACCC released the eighth interim report for the Digital Platform Services Inquiry.

The report considered potential competition and consumer issues in the supply of data products and services by data firms in Australia. It outlines a range of industry practice which have not been well-examined in Australia by academics, regulators and others. This is important given the significant role data firms play in the economy.

The report does not make any new recommendations to government but provides further evidence to support the introduction of a prohibition on unfair trading practices and the implementation of strengthened privacy laws in Australia.
