The ACCC has granted authorisation to enable three Tasmanian councils to engage in collective tendering and contracting for food and garden organics processing services, including acceptance, sorting and disposal. Authorisation has been granted until 8 December 2026.

The participating councils are City of Hobart Council, Glenorchy City Council and Kingborough City Council.

The ACCC considers that the collective tendering is likely to result in public benefits from improved environmental outcomes, transaction cost savings, economic efficiencies and increased competition for contracts to provide organics processing services to the participating councils. The ACCC considers that the collective tendering is likely to result in minimal, if any, public detriment.

More information about the ACCC’s decision is available on the public register at: City of Hobart & Ors (food and garden organics waste).
