ACCC proposes to authorise processors to cooperate on Victorian chicken meat supply during the COVID-19 pandemic

The ACCC has issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation to enable Ingham’s, Turosi, Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm and the Australian Chicken Meat Federation (the representative body for the chicken meat industry) to coordinate through a ‘COVID Working Group’ to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated Victorian stage 4 restrictions on the chicken meat industry.

Authorisation is proposed until 31 December 2020.

To ensure there is sufficient transparency over the processors’ coordination, the ACCC proposes that authorisation will be subject to conditions requiring the processors to provide the ACCC with weekly reports setting out decisions made by the COVID Working Group, and provide any further information that the ACCC requests.

The ACCC now invites submissions in relation to this draft determination, including the proposed period of authorisation, by 9 October 2020, before making its final decision.
