ACCC releases guide to provide clarity on ‘free range’ egg claims

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released a guide to assist egg producers better understand their Australian Consumer Law (ACL) rights and obligations when promoting their products as free range.

The guide explains the ACCC’s approach to enforcing misleading conduct provisions of the ACL, in the context of free range egg claims, while the Commonwealth Treasury is consulting on whether Australia should adopt a national standard on free range egg labelling.

ACCC exempts two of three Victorian wheat port terminals from Wheat Code

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released determinations to exempt Emerald’s Melbourne Port Terminal (MPT) and GrainCorp’s Geelong terminal from certain parts of the mandatory wheat Code.

The ACCC has not determined to exempt GrainCorp’s Portland port terminal at this time.

“The ACCC’s view is that there is sufficient competition between Emerald’s MPT and GrainCorp’s Geelong port terminal to support granting exemptions at this time,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said.
