Final advice

The ACCC provided its final advice to the Minister on 21 September 2016. The Minister publicly released this advice and on 15 November 2016 gave notice of his intention to repeal Part 5 of the Water Charge (Infrastructure) Rules 2010, consistent with the ACCC’s rule advice 5-L. 

Water reforms delivering benefits for Murray Darling Basin water users but significant issues remain

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has publicly released the 2014–15 Water Monitoring Report.

The report provides information on the level of water infrastructure charges that irrigators and other customers face in the Murray-Darling Basin. It also reports on the progress that has been made to increase the efficiency of Basin water markets.

The report provides information for the 2014−15 year on regulated water charges, transformation arrangements, termination of irrigation network access, compliance with the Commonwealth water market rules and water charge rules, and related issues.

ACCC issues final decision on WaterNSW’s 2016–17 charges in the Murray-Darling Basin

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released its final decision on charges that Water NSW is able to levy for infrastructure services in the Murray-Darling Basin during 2016–17. This decision is an annual process which adjusts future charges to account for changes in usage from the levels forecast according to the methodology that the ACCC developed in consultation with WaterNSW and water users in 2014.

ACCC issues draft decision on WaterNSW's 2016-17 charges in the Murray-Darling Basin

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released its draft decision on proposed charges for WaterNSW’s infrastructure services in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) during 2016-17. These charges are consistent with the ACCC’s 2014 determination, based on the principles and rules established under the Commonwealth Water Act. The charges have been set to recover WaterNSW’s prudent and efficient costs of providing infrastructure services to water users.

Application

The Water Charge (Infrastructure) Rules 2010 require Water NSW to apply to the ACCC for approval or determination of its charges for the second and subsequent years of a regulatory period.

Water NSW submitted its application for 2016-17 charges to the ACCC on 7 March 2016.
