ACCC opposes AGL's proposed acquisition of Macquarie Generation

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has today announced that it will oppose the acquisition of the assets of Macquarie Generation by AGL Energy Limited (AGL). The ACCC considers that the proposed acquisition is likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the market for the retail supply of electricity in New South Wales. 

ACCC to not oppose Amcor's proposed acquisition of Detmold's Australian operations

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose the proposed acquisition by Amcor Ltd of Detmold Group’s Australian flexible packaging operation.

Detmold competes with Amcor in the supply of value-added flexible packaging, particularly to manufacturers of fast moving consumer goods.

This acquisition follows Amcor’s acquisition of Aperio Group in 2012, which was subject to a detailed ACCC review. 

ACCC clarification on Myer and David Jones merger speculation

The ACCC is aware of recent media reports which suggest that the ACCC has indicated that it would be unlikely to object to a merger between Myer and David Jones. To ensure there is no confusion about the position of the ACCC on this issue, the ACCC wishes to make clear that it has formed no such view and it has provided no such indication, either formally or informally, to Myer or any other person.

ACCC calls for comment on AGL's proposed acquisition of Macquarie Generation

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has released a Statement of Issues outlining concerns with the proposed acquisition of Macquarie Generation by AGL Energy Limited (AGL). The key assets of Macquarie Generation are the Bayswater and Liddell power stations (together, these power stations account for 27 per cent of NSW capacity).

The Statement of Issues seeks more information on competition issues which have arisen from the ACCC’s review to date.

ACCC to not oppose BlueScope Steel’s proposed acquisition of Fielders Australia

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose the proposed acquisition by BlueScope Steel Ltd of Fielders Australia.

BlueScope, through its subsidiary Lysaght, competes with Fielders in the manufacture and supply of roll formed products. Roll formed products are used in all types of building structures and customers include builders, roof installers and shed manufacturers.  

ACCC to not oppose ERM Power’s proposed acquisition of Macquarie Generation

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose the proposed acquisition by ERM Power Limited (ERM) of the NSW Government’s Macquarie Generation business and assets (Macquarie Generation) including the Bayswater and Liddell power stations.

“The ACCC concluded that the proposed acquisition is not likely to have the effect of substantially lessening competition in any relevant market,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said.
