At the Regional Mobile Issues Forum, we made a number of findings regarding measures to improve outcomes for regional mobile consumers and business. This included the need to improve mobile coverage information for consumers and identifying potential regulatory options to extend mobile coverage in regional areas.
Optus, Telstra and Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) each committed individually to improve the provision of information to consumers and businesses. They also committed to discussing with each other measures to improve comparability of coverage and quality of different networks.
Following the forum, the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) wrote a letter to the ACCC to advise that it would work with its members to improve coverage map comparability and develop a co-building process for greenfield sites. We have also written to the AMTA, Optus, Telstra, TPG and VHA, seeking their commitment to work collaboratively to improve coverage map information and to help implement other outcomes of the Forum. The letters are available below.
We'll continue to engage with relevant industry, government, regional and consumer stakeholders regarding issues and outcomes identified at the Forum.
