On 21 December 2017, ARTC applied to the ACCC to vary its 2011 Hunter Valley Access Undertaking. The variation seeks to change a number of provisions in the undertaking, including:
- incorporating path based pricing
- allocating incremental capital costs on the basis of contracted capacity
- applying a dual ceiling limit.

On 16 January 2018, the ACCC published a consultation paper inviting submissions on ARTC's proposed variation. Submissions were due by 13 February 2018.
On 28 June 2018, the ACCC issued a Draft Decision on ARTC's application to vary its 2011 Hunter Valley Access Undertaking, and invited submissions on the Draft Decision. Submissions were due by 27 July 2018.
On 27 July 2018, ARTC withdrew its variation application.
