Petrol, diesel and automotive LPG prices are no longer regulated in Australia. Automotive LPG prices were deregulated in 1991 and petrol and diesel prices were deregulated in 1998, however in the interests of consumers and competition, the ACCC continues to monitor fuel prices in Australia's capital cities and around 180 regional locations.

ACCC's fuel monitoring role

While the ACCC does not set fuel prices, we monitor retail fuel prices on a daily basis. New arrangements for ACCC monitoring of the Australian petroleum industry commenced in December 2014.
