In December 2018 the ACCC and Gas Market Reform Group (GMRG) jointly reported to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council on measures to improve transparency in the gas market. That report indicated that the ACCC would provide further transparency advice in the first half of 2019 on:
- measures to improve gas price transparency
- a framework for the consistent reporting of gas reserves and resources
- the adequacy of the weighted average prices published by non-scheme pipeline operators under Part 23 of the National Gas Rules, and whether this metric should be retained and/or refined.
The ACCC provided this further advice to the COAG Energy Council Senior Committee of Officials on 31 May 2019. These recommendations can be found in the attached papers.
