On 19 April 2017 the Australian Government directed the ACCC to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the supply of and demand for wholesale gas in Australia, as well as to publish regular information on the supply and pricing of gas for the next three years. On 25 July 2019, Treasurer the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, wrote to the ACCC extending the ACCC’s inquiry into the gas market until December 2025.

This is the third interim report of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) inquiry (‘the Inquiry’) into gas supply arrangements in Australia. The ACCC has continued its focus on the operation of the East Coast Gas Market, where there are immediate and longer-term concerns.
On 13 December 2017, the ACCC released its second interim report as part of its inquiry into Australia’s wholesale gas supply arrangements. The report focuses on the operation of the East Coast Gas Market, where there are continuing immediate and longer-term concerns.
On 25 September 2017, the ACCC released its first interim report of its inquiry into gas supply arrangements in Australia. The report focuses on likely supply and demand conditions in the east coast gas market for 2018.
