This is the ACCC's sixth report as part of its inquiry into the prices, profits and margins in the supply of electricity in the National Electricity Market.
The ACCC and ASIC have jointly produced this guideline which aims to assist creditors, collectors and debtors understand their rights and obligations, and ensure that debt collection activity is undertaken in a way that is consistent with consumer protection laws.
These guidelines set out how the ACCC will interpret Part XICA of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) (CCA) and they explain the general approach the ACCC will take in investigating alleged contraventions of Part XICA. They include a number of examples of the types of conduct that the ACCC considers are likely or unlikely to contravene Part XICA.
