About mergers and acquisitions registers
Mergers and acquisitions occur when a business buys another business or its assets. This allows the business to become more efficient and innovative.
From 1 January 2026, the ACCC will assess notified acquisitions and waivers under the mandatory merger control regime. There is a voluntary period for notification from 1 July 2025. The acquisitions register lists these notifications.
The informal merger review process will continue until the 31 December 2025. It is no longer possible to apply for merger authorisation.
