Description of Conduct
On 25 November 2024, Diamantina Power Station Pty Ltd (Diamantina Power Station) lodged an application, on behalf of itself and other participants in the North West Power System (NWPS), to revoke authorisation AA1000454 and in substitute authorisation AA1000686. Diamantina Power Station effectively sought to extend its existing authorisation to continue to engage in technical and operational arrangements related to the operation of the North West Power System (NWPS). In particular, Diamantina Power Station sought authorisation for current and future participants of the NWPS to agree to rules related to the coordination of dispatch generators, and demand and load shedding of certain electricity consumers within the NWPS. The NWPS is an isolated electricity generation and transmission network based in Mt Isa and is not currently connected to the national grid.
The ACCC previously granted authorisation with a condition for substantially similar conduct in January 2015 and March 2020.
Authorisation was sought for a period of 5 years.
On 29 January 2025, the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation with a condition for 5 years.
On 26 February 2025, the ACCC issued a final determination granting authorisation with a condition for 5 years, until 20 March 2030.
The ACCC’s final determination, draft determination and the application for authorisation are available below.
