Description of Conduct
On 26 May 2022, the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council Limited (the ABSC) applied for authorisation to establish and operate a voluntary, industry-led product stewardship scheme in Australia, ‘Recycle My Mattress’. The scheme aims to increase resource recovery and the diversion of waste from landfill, and minimise the environmental, and health and safety impacts of end-of-life (EOL) mattresses. The ABSC sought authorisation for 5 years.
On 25 August 2022, the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation for 5 years with conditions. The proposed conditions relate to annual reporting and an independent review of the Scheme’s operation against its objectives and targets.
On 26 October 2022, the ACCC issued a final determination granting authorisation, subject to conditions, for the Proposed Conduct until 26 October 2027.
A copy of the application and the ACCC’s draft and final determination are available below.
