The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today issued a Statement of Issues (SoI) on Baiada Poultry Pty Ltd's acquisition of Bartter Enterprises Pty Ltd.
Bartter Enterprises is the owner of the Steggles brand, which it claims is the second largest producer and marketer of chicken and turkey products in Australia. The ACCC understands that Inghams is the largest, and Baiada is the third largest producer of chicken products in Australia.
This SoI is issued in order to ascertain further information on certain competition issues which have arisen from the ACCC's market inquiries to date.
The ACCC invites further submissions from the market by 27 January 2009. To allow for submissions in response to the SoI, the ACCC's final decision date will be deferred until 11 February 2009.
Submissions can be sent by email to the ACCC at: mergers@accc.gov.au
The SoI will be available on the ACCC's website through the Public Registers link to the ACCC's mergers and acquisitions register.
