June 2023 interim report5 Jul 2023

On 5 July 2023, the ACCC released its first interim report for the inquiry into childcare services. It focuses on prices, supply and demand for childcare and an initial examination of the impact of the Child Care Subsidy.

The interim report includes analysis by socio-economic areas in Australia. We have used the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) which rank areas according to relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage. Interactive maps exploring the distribution of the SEIFA 2016 indexes are available on the ABS website at: Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) 2016 | Interactive Maps

Errata

Following the publication of the interim report on 5 July 2023, discrepancies were identified in the figures stated for enrolments in childcare and in the use of the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD) rather than the Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage and Disadvantage (IRSAD) as initially stated. The relevant material has been revised in the Childcare Inquiry June interim report and the errata below lists the updated material.
