In 2019, the ACCC commenced a review into customer loyalty schemes.
On 5 September 2019, the ACCC released a draft report of findings and recommendations along with a commissioned expert report. Stakeholders are encouraged to make submissions on the draft report by 3 October 2019.
The ACCC expects to release a final report in late 2019.
As part of addressing the ACCC’s 2019 compliance and enforcement priority into competition and consumer issues arising from customer loyalty schemes, the ACCC commenced a review of customer loyalty schemes with a focus on the major customer loyalty schemes available in Australia.
The objective of this review was for the ACCC to gain a better understanding of how customer loyalty schemes operate; the collection, use and disclosure of consumer data; and the terms and conditions of these schemes.
Following this review, the ACCC has released a draft report containing its findings and recommendations and is now seeking comment on them.
