What the ACCC does

  • We monitor, investigate and enforce compliance with the water market manipulation and insider trading laws.
  • We monitor, investigate and enforce decision-makers’ obligations to announce and record water markets decisions.
  • We provide guidance material for industry participants about the water markets integrity provisions.

What the ACCC can't do

  • We don’t resolve individual disputes between parties. We review and consider all information received.
  • We don’t give legal advice to water market participants on whether particular practices comply with the law. We are available to discuss issues you may be having with how to comply.
  • We don’t take enforcement or compliance action in response to every report we receive. We use these reports to address issues that will have the greatest benefit in enhancing the efficient operation of the Murray-Darling Basin water market.
