For the 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2017 regulatory period, the ACCC was the regulator responsible for approving or determining State Water’s (now WaterNSW’s) regulated charges in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB) under the Water Charge (Infrastructure) Rules 2010 (WCIR). State Water’s regulated charges outside the NSW MDB during that period were regulated by the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) under NSW state legislation.

On 1 June 2016, IPART became the accredited regulator of WaterNSW in relation to Part 6 of the WCIR. As a result, for the 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2021 regulatory period, IPART is the regulator responsible for approving or determining WaterNSW’s regulated charges in the MDB, including any annual reviews. Details of this determination are available on the IPART website.
