NBN Co's Accounting Separation report (the report) requires it to account for separate revenue and cost bases for its monopoly (core) and competitive services. The allocation of costs and revenues between these services reflects the direct and indirect costs incurred in, and revenue generated from, those services.

The requirement for NBN Co to provide the report was established under the Accounting Procedures (the procedures) which the ACCC approved in 2024. The report is required to be produced for each financial half year and provided to the ACCC on an unaudited basis. Independent assurance is provided in annual assurance reports.

Combined with the Cost Allocation Manual (CAM), the procedures provide a framework for NBN Co’s accounting separation, record keeping, reporting and assurance measures to demonstrate that NBN Co is allocating its costs between its core and competitive services in accordance with the CAM.
