Request for advice - 850/900 MHz spectrum27 Apr 2021
On 28 October 2020, the ACCC received a letter of request from the Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, regarding allocation limits for the planned spectrum allocation for the 850 MHz expansion band and the 900 MHz band. The Minister initially requested that the ACCC provide its advice by 19 February 2021. The ACCC subsequently received an extension from the Minister until 5 March 2021.
On 18 November 2020, the ACCC released a consultation paper seeking views on a range of issues to inform its consideration of the advice to the Minister. The consultation period closed on 18 December 2020.
The ACCC received six submissions in response to the consultation paper. Public submissions are available below.
On 5 March 2021, the ACCC provided its advice on allocation limits to the Minister. A public version of the ACCC's advice is available below.
On 30 June 2021, the ACCC received a letter of request from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) on allocation limits for the 850/900 MHz band allocation. On 14 July 2021, the ACCC provided a letter of response to the ACMA.
