Request for advice - 26 GHz spectrum26 Feb 2020

On 18 October 2019, the ACCC received a request for advice from the Minister of Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts regarding competition issues associated with the planned spectrum and apparatus licence allocation of the 26 and 28 GHz bands.

In recognition of the timing of the Federal Court’s decision on the proposed merger between Vodafone Hutchison Australia and TPG Telecom, the Minister agreed to extend his request for ACCC advice to 15 May 2020.

On 26 February 2020, the ACCC released a consultation paper seeking feedback from interested parties to help inform its consideration and advice to the Minister. The consultation period closed on 27 March 2020.

The ACCC received nine submissions to the consultation paper.

On 15 May 2020, the ACCC provided its allocation limits advice to the Minister.
