On 1 August 2019, Australia Post provided the ACCC with a draft price notification proposing to increase prices of ordinary letters delivered at the regular timetable by 10%.
This includes an increase of the basic postage rate for ordinary small letters delivered at the regular timetable from $1.00 to $1.10. It also includes price increases of 10% for the delivery of ordinary large letters up to 250 grams.
On 23 August 2019 the ACCC released an issues paper for comment. Submissions closed on 13 September 2019.
On 14 November 2019 the ACCC released its view not objecting to Australia Post’s draft price notification.
On 20 November 2019 Australia Post provided the ACCC with its formal price notification, which was consistent with its draft price notification.
The ACCC was required under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 to assess Australia Post’s price notification.
The ACCC released its decision to not object to Australia Post’s price notification on 6 December 2019.
