In 2016-17, the ACCC conducted a market study of the new car retailing industry. The study focused on present and emerging competition and consumer issues in the industry.

In December 2017, the ACCC released its final report for the new car retailing industry.

About the market study

In June 2016, the ACCC announced it would undertake a market study into the  new car retailing industry. The study was to examine competition and consumer issues that may be present in the industry with a focus on practices relating to:

  • consumer guarantees and warranties;
  • access to repair and service information and data and post-sale service arrangements; and
  • fuel consumption, emissions and car performance.
