What the ACCC does

  • We enforce the water markets intermediaries code prescribed by the Water Regulations 2008 and the trust accounting requirements in Part 5 of the Water Act 2007.
  • We provide guidance material for industry participants about code obligations.

What the ACCC can't do

  • We don’t resolve individual disputes.
  • We don’t give legal advice.
  • We don’t take enforcement action in response to every report we receive.

A new Water Markets Intermediaries Code and trust accounting requirements are coming into effect. Some obligations start on 1 July 2025 and some start on 1 October 2025.

Where relevant, we have identified when each requirement starts on the water markets intermediaries code pages.
