Social media and the ACL
Broadly, businesses may breach the ACL if they:
- make false or misleading claims
- know about and fail to remove false or misleading posts or public comments made by others
- engage in unfair selling practices e.g. running a promotion offering a prize if there is no intention of providing it as offered
- promote participation in a pyramid scheme
- don’t show the total sum a consumer must pay if they purchase a good or service.
