Chapter 2 of the ACL creates minimum standards for businesses by prohibiting some general forms of objectionable conduct. The following behaviour, examined in detail in Module 7, is illegal:

  • Misleading or deceptive conduct: The ACL prohibits a business (or person) from engaging in conduct in the course of trade or commerce that misleads or deceives or is likely to mislead or deceive
  • False or misleading representations: The ACL prohibits various specific false or misleading claims about goods or services, land and employment.
