Purpose

We promote competition and protect consumers across Australia.

Strategic objectives

Over the next 3 years, our strategic objectives will help us to achieve our purpose to promote competition and protect consumers across Australia. These objectives are interconnected, each supports the others.

Protect Australians from harmful products and practices

We will strengthen trust in markets by improving business compliance with competition, fair trading and consumer law. We will disrupt and deter bad actors who threaten the safety, livelihood and welfare of consumers. This will be achieved through strong enforcement, active monitoring, educating businesses, informing consumers and taking timely intervention.

Champion stronger competition in our economy

We will support consumers and small businesses and promote innovation and productivity by preventing unfair business practices and fostering competitive markets. This will be achieved by applying clear regulatory frameworks, educating businesses, investigating and enforcing the law and promoting initiatives to address competition problems.

Deliver benefits through right-sized regulation

We will deliver long-term benefits to consumers and businesses across Australia by applying effective and proportionate regulation. This will be achieved by engaging stakeholders, gathering information, monitoring and reporting on concentrated markets, calibrating our interventions to harm, and making recommendations for change.

Keep improving how we work

We will enhance our efficiency and effectiveness and ensure we can adapt and respond to emerging needs. This will be achieved by focusing on these 5 areas:

  • governance and decision-making
  • workforce capability
  • data and digital
  • ways of working
