Consultation outcomes10 Feb 2017

The ACCC released a report on the outcomes of its 2016 public consultation regarding the advertising of retail fixed-line broadband speeds.

The report includes six principles to help ensure retail service providers’ (RSPs) claims about broadband speeds are not misleading under the Australian Consumer Law. The principles help provide a guide to RSPs on best practice marketing when it comes to broadband speeds, including how to make a clear statement on the typical speeds consumers can expect during busy hours.

The ACCC will now work with industry and issue more detailed guidance to ensure they are able to use this framework to provide better information to their customers. This is anticipated for release in the first half of 2017.
