A British Airways discount fare offer has been extended, and its advertising altered, following Australian Competition and Consumer Commission* action in Perth.

ACCC Western Australian Regional Director, Mr Michael Rawstron, said today the ACCC had identified misleading advertising by British Airways in their recent "London for Sale. $1,699" advertising campaign in Western Australia.

"As a result British Airways has altered advertising and extended the discount period for that campaign.

"Despite the advertising that the flights would cost only $1,699 for the period 16 January and 31 March 1996, all flights during March were, in fact, $100 dearer.

"The possible cost to customers of British Airways from the initial misleading advertising is unknown. However, the cost to British Airways resulting in their change in advertising and the extended discount is likely to be considerable."
