COTA Victoria are the peak body representing the wide-ranging needs and interests of older people in the Victorian community. COTA Victoria's mission is to mobilise older people and those who work with them, to age well in a just society. COTA is involved with: Policy Development that ensures that the voices of older Victorians are heard, Innovative Activities that demonstrate new ways to defy negative stereotypes and age well, Information on issues of importance to seniors, Representation of the views of older Victorians to government, community and business organisations, the media and service providers and Membership. COTA has an active membership to keep informed of issues as they arise.

Council on the Ageing (COTA) is the peak organisation for older Australians. COTA mission is to enhance the quality of life, to protect and promote the well-being and to advance to its full potential, the citizenship of seniors. Membership of COTA is open to people over 50 years of age. COTA provides information, advice and for a voice to Government on issues of concern. COTA promotes a positive community understanding of ageing, taking into account, the diversity of older people, the wide range of their interests, skills, knowledge and capacity to contribute to the community. We oppose the stereotyping of older people and support the development of policies and programs that reflect the diversity, individuality and capacities as well as the needs of older people.

Council on the Ageing NT

Description

As the Peak Body for seniors in the Territory, COTA (NT) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the well being of Territorians aged 50 years and over and Indigenous Territorians aged 45 years and over. The Northern Territory Government provides financial support to assist COTA (NT) in fulfilling its policy, consultation, representation and information dissemination roles. COTA (NT) delivers projects which assist Territory seniors, with funding provided by various organisations. Our current projects include provision of assistance to seniors from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds through the Commonwealth Government's Partners in Culturally Appropriate Aged Care (PICAC) program and the Northern Territory Government's Office of Ethnic Affairs; and Peer Education programs funded by the National Prescribing Service (Seniors Quality Use of Medicines, Generic Medicines) and beyondblue (Beyond maturityblues).

Description

The prime objective of COTA Over 50s is to promote, improve and protect the circumstances and wellbeing of older people in Australia and particularly the vulnerable and disadvantaged. COTA's work draws on the views of today’s seniors and on concerns for future generations of Australians. COTA can advise consumers on issues affecting older Australians and can refer consumers to other agencies and organisations that can provide advice and assistance. COTA is Australia's leading seniors' organisation, with individual members and seniors organisation members in all States and Territories. COTA is an independent consumer organisation run by and for senior Australians. There is a COTA office in every state and territory.

COTAQ (Council on the Ageing Queensland's Inc.) promotes and protects the well-being of all older Queenslanders through policy and advocacy; education and information and community projects. COTAQ aims to mobilise older people, those who work with them, governments, and the community towards achieving well-being and social justice for all older people. Together, through the Queensland and National Policy Councils COTAQ is actively identifying and responding to emergent policy areas. COTA aims for a more just, equitable and humane community in which older people interacting with all generations are enabled/empowered to grow to their fullest capacity to contribute to their communities and have access to appropriate care and support.

Council On The Ageing (Tasmania) Inc COTA (Tas) is an autonomous member of the national COTA Over 50's Alliance, comprising Councils On The Ageing in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania and the Australian Retired Pensioners Association (ARPA Over 50's). COTA (Tas) was established in 1964 and is the peak organisation representing all older people in Tasmania. COTA TAS aims for an inclusive community which values, supports and recognises the contribution of older people. COTA TAS champions the rights and interests of older people with particular focus on vunerable and disadvantaged older people by promoting and supporting positive ageing and contributing to and driving policy development.
