The ACCC considered the completed acquisition in the context of the national market for magazine distribution services.
Competition analysis
The ACCC concluded that the completed acquisition was unlikely to substantially lessen competition in the relevant markets. In forming this view, the ACCC had regard to a number of factors including:
- the competitive constraint posed by existing market participants, including Gordon & Gotch and Fairfax, along with smaller magazine distributors; and
- the threat of new entry by logistics service providers, which have pre-existing distribution routes, capital and infrastructure suitable for use in magazine distribution.
